The goal of the lawsuit is to make sure the Social Security system stays accessible, fair, and fully staffed so no one gets left behind. You’re not alone in this—there are strong voices working hard to keep your supports in place.
On April 2, 2025, the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) have filed a federal lawsuit against the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk.
The lawsuit challenges recent actions by the SSA, such as laying off 7,000 employees, closing key offices like the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity, and requiring more in-person visits for services. Advocates argue these changes disproportionately harm people with disabilities and older adults who rely on Social Security benefits.
They claim the cuts violate the Rehabilitation Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and constitutional rights, including due process. Find our more: https://www.aapd.com/aapd-sues-ssa-and-doge/
