SSA & Doge Sued If you’ve been hearing about budget cuts happening in the Social Security Administration and feeling worried, take a deep breath—advocates are stepping up to protect your rights. Groups like AAPD and Justice in Aging are fighting back because they know how critical these services are for people with  disabilities and their families.

The goal of the lawsuit is to make sure the Social Security system stays accessible, fair, and fully staffed so no one gets left behind. You’re not alone in this—there are strong voices working hard to keep your supports in place.

On April 2, 2025, the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) have filed a federal lawsuit against the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk.

The lawsuit challenges recent actions by the SSA, such as laying off 7,000 employees, closing key offices like the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity, and requiring more in-person visits for services. Advocates argue these changes disproportionately harm people with disabilities and older adults who rely on Social Security benefits.

They claim the cuts violate the Rehabilitation Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and constitutional rights, including due process. Find our more: https://www.aapd.com/aapd-sues-ssa-and-doge/
