Dear Friends of Project Independence:
As our country gets ready to celebrate nearly 250 years of independence this July 4, we’re reflecting on what independence really means, and how powerful it is when someone with a developmental disability achieves the freedom they need to thrive in their own life.
For Cristina, that freedom has meant 21 years of purpose, pride, and community through her paid job as a mail attendant at Irvine City Hall. She’s been part of Project Independence since 2000, and this year, she celebrated 25 years of her own independence journey.
Cristina’s story is one of determination and success. With the support of Project Independence, she has built a career she loves, developed daily living skills, and formed meaningful relationships.
And she’s just one example of what’s possible when people with developmental disabilities are given the tools and support to thrive, not just survive.
Your Support Makes a Difference
In a world that feels more uncertain by the day, we’re holding tight to what matters: community, inclusion, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live their fullest life.
A gift today helps adults with developmental disabilities like Cristina continue building lives filled with dignity, connection, and choice. It helps us keep job coaches in the field, provide life skills training, and ensure that independence is more than a word, it’s a reality.
Be part of something bigger – help us turn ‘Freedom to Thrive’ into reality for adults with developmental disabilities.
Together, we can make sure more people with developmental disabilities have the chance to celebrate their own milestones of independence.
