When Jordan came to Project Independence, he brought something important with him: more than two decades of hands-on work experience and a strong desire to get back to work.
Jordan is one of the newest clients in Project Independence’s Job Development program, where he is working with our Supported Employment team to find a full-time position in Orange County.
And he has plenty to offer his next employer.
Jordan spent nearly 20 years working for an equipment rental company, where his responsibilities included setting up stages, tents, wedding floors and other event equipment; maintaining equipment; working with tools and trailers; inspecting rental trucks; painting; and assisting with deliveries and setup.
More recently, Jordan spent four years as a head custodian at a school. There, he was responsible for maintaining classrooms, restrooms, breakrooms and other areas; responding to facility requests; painting; assisting with minor repairs and plumbing; and ordering facility equipment.
In other words, Jordan knows how to work.
Preparing for His Next Opportunity
Jordan has been with Project Independence for about a month, and finding that next opportunity has already become a team effort.
His Job Developer searches for openings in janitorial work, stocking, maintenance, positions involving tools and other physical jobs that match Jordan’s experience and strengths. They also meet weekly to practice interview questions so Jordan can become increasingly comfortable talking about his skills and experience.
Jordan takes the process seriously. He arrives at interviews looking professional and prepared, and his Job Developer describes him as kind, aware and someone with a positive, can-do attitude.
Jordan’s mom and sister are involved in his job search as well, creating a partnership between Jordan, his family and Project Independence.
